"Bill C-10B, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals and firearms) and the Firearms Act, is the first major amendment to the Cruelty to Animals sections of the Criminal Code since these laws were originally enacted in 1892. The new bill suggests moving animals out of the property section of the property section of the Criminal Code, and provides tougher punishments for killing or harming an animal, or for failing to provide adequate care. We at the Ferret Aid Society feel that there is a need for much stronger anti-cruelty legislation. The current provisions in the Criminal Code of Canada against animal cruelty were written over 100 years ago (1892)! We've provided links to two very information-rich sites regarding the Bill and what you can do to help it pass into law.
As you've read and seen from this website, and no doubt countless examples in your own cities and towns, something must be done to ensure better protection of our animals. If the London bunch, Sammy, Bandit, Ra & Rusty or Harley touched your heart at all, please visit these sites and consider loaning your support to this cause!
* For our American friends, please see our :: Links :: section where we have posted a link ("Animal Cruelty - How to Help") to similar legislation being attempted in the United States.
