ECE Warning
We want to inform prospective adoptive parents that in October 2003 our shelter became infected with ECE, also known as the "Green Slime" disease. We have not suspended adoptions but we would caution any prospective owners that even a ferret not displaying symptoms may be infected.

Name: Otto (male)
Arrival Age: 1 year old approx.
Arrival Date: March 27 2005, from a breeder (Easter rescue)
Notes: Otto is a big baby and let us know from the start when he cried for being scruffed for his ADV test. Otto came by his name for having alot of things in common with his fostermummy's godfather; he gets crazy bed-head, he had a love-hate relationship with his 'wife' and he was so frail and thin when he first came but so resilient and tough . Otto came to us from the same backyard breeder who surrendered his group on Easter Sunday. Otto was extremely thin and, like all the others in this group, lacked any muscle in the hind end and had to re-adjust to moving about freely. Otto loves snuggling and will lay back in your arms for a tummy rub and snooze.

Name: Lusia and Equinsa (females)
Arrival Age: 7 months old approx.
Arrival Date: June 30, 2005 (Canada Day weekend rescue)
Notes: Lusia & Equinsa arrived on the last day(thursday) of June, approximately 5 weeks of age, making them part of the Canada Day gang. They were removed by the London SPCA and placed into the Humane Society's care until transferred to FAS London. They are 2 of 11 babies and 2 Mommies and remain 2 of the last 3 to be adopted. These sisters formed part of a group lovingly nicknamed 'The Devil's Rejects" and were named in this context. Lusia worked perfectly- her foster mummy had a friend who lost his gram recently and in honour she used part of her surname. It also worked out to be a short fem. version of 'Lucifer', quite appropiate! Equinsa came from knowing the toughest of the 'rejects' had the most white in her sable coat- a bib and knee patch-earning her the title of "white devil". Then remembering the Ace Ventura series, and the scene in which Ace is called white devil by tribesmen, it was just a matter of figuring out what the tribesmen were saying - Equinsa Ocha. Now approx 7 mos these gorgeous babies are slightly calming and remain bundles of lightening. They are still working on how to not bite so hard but have come a long way. They are often described as UBER ferrets; both girls are big, amazingly agile, fast amongst other qualities. They are sweet girls but remain slightly skittery. Both are 'tone hogs and spoiled rotten. Quin is the alpha of the 2. Both do well with new ferrets, Lusia is more shy of the 2. Both are CLIMBERS. They are a bonded pair and would do better left together. They were exposed to ECE at approx 2 mos of age with no complications or obvious symptoms. Both were spayed at approx 4.5 mos and are up to date for Distemper.

Name: Guido (male)
Arrival Age: 1 year approx.
Arrival Date: --
Notes: Guido used to be known as the local "hit man" since his adrenal surgery in February, Guido has calmed down quite a bit. He's gentle and loving though still must go to a very ferret aware home. He's got a load of energy and spunk and needs a lot of out of cage time. He's super fun and super smart and loves to get into all kinds of trouble! He's a favorite among all of the shelter volunteers and gets along particularly well with men. He's not so great with docile ferrets but does well with the rough and tumble kinds.

Guido prefers the company of people to other ferrets and would do best as a single ferret but will tolerate other ferrets if he has to. If you are considering adding Guido to your home, he is truly a special boy who needs love and needs you.
